Moving Minds is an exhibition created by MECOPP (Minority Ethnic Carers of People Project) from an anthology of work composed by Gypsy/Travellers across Scotland. It forms part of an ongoing project aiming to break down existing prejudices and end the discrimination many have experienced.
In an open, honest, and often humorous way, contributors to this exhibition have shared memories, telling diverse stories from Scotland’s Gypsy and Traveller population. Moving Minds showcases these stories through first-hand accounts and photographs of chattery – objects of importance to the Gypsy/Travellers. This collection of objects and experiences provides a wealth of fascinating detail about a much maligned and misunderstood community.
The exhibition will be enhanced by the display of objects of Gypsy/Traveller heritage from The Smith’s collection.
Moving Minds was originally funded by the Tudor Trust, the Scottish Government, NHS Lothians and Perth and Kinross Council. Copies of the exhibition catalogue will be available for purchase in the museum shop.
