The Sketch Class was set up in the Smith in May 2000 by artist and art historian Peter Russell. They have run continuously since and remarkably, three of the original group are still attending: Maureen Campbell; Elizabeth Dougal and Christine Morrison.
The sessions run from 1pm to 3.30pm, meeting in the Smith where the museum, cafe and galleries are the core subjects for our activities. We also do en-plein-air sketching in the garden and adjacent areas around King’s Park and the Back Walk, but our ambitions have enlarged the hinterland to include the Botanic Gardens of both Glasgow and Edinburgh, the Lighthouse, Falkirk Wheel, Callander Park, Alloa Tower, Stirling and Doune Castles, Airthrey Loch, and Flanders Moss.
