Stirling Field and Archaeological Society – Loch Leven Castle

leaving the Smith at 9.30am

Last year our visit was thwarted by the weather, which damaged the jetty and prevented getting out to the island and exploring the ruins of the 13th – 14th century castle from which Mary Queen of Scots made her famous escape from imprisonment.  (Boat trip and castle entry costs £7.50 or £6.00 concessions; free for Historic Scotland members). After lunch we will go round to the other side of the Loch to visit the RSPB’s Vane Farm Reserve to enjoy opportunities to spot the varied wildlife. Please bring a packed lunch (if you wish) and wear suitable clothes. Travel arrangements are as above
