Stirling Field and Archaeological Society – St Monan’s Old Church & Newark Castle

On Saturday 24th we will be visiting St Monan’s Old Church, one of the earliest in Scotland and the nearby Newark Castle. In the afternoon we will look at the remains of the 18th century saltworks, including a windmill that pumped seawater to the works. Low tide will be about 2.30pm so we should be able to see signs of the channel and storage tanks that were cut out of the rock.
